Are you a Gripper?

ARE YOU A GRIPPER?

These are common site for gripping in postnatal women. Due to the postural changes that occur during pregnancies among the added affects of relaxin, the global stabilisers (larger muscles) with override the local stabilisers (smaller stabilising muscles) for stability.

🗼

Over prolonged period of time these muscles will become stiff and tighten as they grip to hold on. Tight muscles will pull the body out of alignment and create imbalance. Poor posture alignment switches off the stabilising muscles. This can compromise balance, breathing and continence.

⚖️

Here are three training recommendations to work on these imbalances. Watch the full video here for a deeper dive and stay tuned for another video with some more exercises.

  1. Adopt correct posture alignment

  2. Learn to breathe correctly

  3. Train the brain to recruit the deep stabilisers prior to movement
